maggie version 1.0

maggie's first birthday party...

well, i'm sure the you can imagine that i have an opinion about first birthday parties:

  • they should be tasteful, not tacky. (if your kid is that familiar with spongebob, you are not going to win parent of the year. i'm just saying.)

  • not too many other "little" kids. (they don't know what's going on anyway --- besides, didn't you want your child to be the center of attention?)

  • not overly organized. (unless you are actually employed as a Cruise Director, there should not be an itinerary. let's just play it loose.)

so. how to strike the perfect balance? well, i posed it to our guests as a "drop-in, very small casual family gathering." perfect. (oh, did i mention that my child's birthday is december 30...? so now i get to mess up everybody's new year's plans. nice.)

actually, it did turn out perfect. we timed it from 4-7 p.m. (maggie's best time of day --- other than 7:00 a.m., which would have just been inconvenient) as a drop-in, and other than our nieces, no other little kids.

there will be plenty of time for dora and barbie themed parties later. this year, i just wanted all of the people who had helped our family so much during the first year to be the ones who got to celebrate.
